UAB Cross Country Finishes 11th

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ---- The UAB cross country team finished 11th out of a field of 33 teams with a score of 341 at the Crimson Classic at the Harry Pritchett Running Park. Junior Lucy Crookes led the Blazers with a 17th-place finish.
"Whereas our front three ran really well today, the rest of the pack is going to have to step it up if we're going to have a good day in Denton, Texas," said head coach Tony Houchin.
Crookes ran the 5K-meter course in a season-best 17:51.45. Sophomore Sarah Livett was the second UAB runner to cross the line, stopping the clock at 17:59.45. Freshman Rebecca Evans recorded a 38th-place finish, running an 18:16.56.
Senior Lauren Scott finished in 136th (19:37.53), freshman Allison Wortel finished in 199th, running a season-best time of 20:36.53, junior Kristie Leybourne finished in 214th (20:52.88) and sophomore Lauren Pray finished in 246th (22:23.40).
Tennessee's Chelsea Blaase won the event, turning in a 16:37.66. Alabama took the team title with a final tally of 68. Georgia Tech and Auburn rounded out the top-three teams, scoring a 116 and 130, respectively.
The Blazers finished second of all Conference USA competitors, finishing just behind Southern Miss' 10th-place finish. Crookes, Livett and Evans finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, among C-USA runners.
UAB returns to action on Nov. 1 at the C-USA Championship in Denton, Texas.
