UAB Women's Soccer Falls to Thundering Herd, 2-1

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ---- The UAB women’s soccer team got an early goal from junior Paige Hanks, but Marshall tallied two goals in the second half to rally past the Blazers, 2-1, Friday night.
Trailing 1-0, Marshall’s Kelly Culicerto knotted the match in the 54th minute, finishing on a header off a Thundering Herd (6-4-4, 3-1-2 C-USA) corner kick. Seven minutes later, Culicerto put Marshall on top, 2-1, taking advantage of a cross from 10-yards out by Sydney Arnold.
Hanks opened the game’s scoring with a laser from 25 yards out, beating Marshall’s Lizzie Kisk in the upper-right corner. Hanks’ goal was her third of the season and first since finding the back of the net against Chattanooga on Sept. 19.
UAB (5-7-2, 2-2-2 C-USA) was outshot by the Thundering Herd, 15-12. The Blazers are 2-6-1 this season when getting outshot by their opponent.
Junior Angelica Jimenez turned away six shots, bringing her season tally to a Conference USA-best 88.
UAB travels to Bowling Green, Ky., to face WKU on Sunday at 1 p.m.
