Cross Country Lined Up for Greater Louisville Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB cross country team travels to Louisville, Ky., for the 13th Annual Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on Saturday, Oct. 4. Sophomore Sarah Livett leads the Blazers with a 5K time of 18:26.28 and is coming off a second-place finish at the Azalea City Classic on Sept. 12.
"We're just coming off a three week training block and I'm expecting a significant improvement from our last meet,” said head coach Tony Houchin. “At the same time, the competition in Louisville will be formidable and will be a real test for us. I'm excited to see how we stack up"
UAB will be racing in the women’s 5K gold race slated to start at 9:15 a.m. CT. and will be competing against a field of 35 teams. WKU and Middle Tennessee join UAB as representatives of Conference USA participating in the event.
More than 125 colleges and universities from 24 states and Canada will compete in the Greater Louisville Classic, which will be the second largest college meet contested in the United States in 2014. Over 2,600 student-athletes, featuring 24 men’s and 27 women’s teams that are currently ranked, are expected to compete.
The NCAA Division I women’s race showcases three nationally ranked teams in Wisconsin, currently ranked No. 16 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the No. 21-ranked Mountaineers of West Virginia, and No. 22 Virginia Tech.
