Bowling Competes At Hornet Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB bowling team will travel down the road to Montgomery, Ala. for the Hornet Classic hosted by No. 18 Alabama State. The Blazers will compete in their second fall tournament of the season.
UAB (7-6) will be among the 10-team field at the three-day tournament. The other teams include Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Texas Southern, LA Tech, Jackson State, Bethune-Cookman, Southern, Florida A&M and Tulane.
The Blazers opened the 2014-15 season with a fifth place finish at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational. It was the first time in program history that the Blazers began the season with a winning record.
Four players finished in the top 25 individually. Senior Leah Walker led the team finishing in seventh place after averaging a career-high 208.4 in four traditional games.
Freshmen Amy Quick and Jessica Mellott both earned top-20 finishes. Quick was 11th with an 818 (204.5) pinfall in four games, while Mellott took 19th with a 979 (195.8) across five games. Senior Ali Long finished 25th with a 945 (189.0) total on the day.
The tournament will begin on Friday with the Quad Baker matches starting at 10:45 a.m. CT. The teams will then compete in the traditional games on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT.
Sunday will feature the best 4-of-7 Baker matches, which are set to start at 8:30 a.m. CT. The 10 teams will be slated into a bracket based on the results from Friday and Saturday.
