DELAND, Fla. – The UAB bowling team had a big second day at the Wildcat Invitational after grabbing three wins to move up to 10th in the standings.
The Blazers finished 3-2 on the second day, earning wins over Morgan State, Southern and Alabama A&M.
UAB opened the day with a win over Morgan State, 766-763. Junior Ali Long bowled a game high 201 to help the Blazers in the win. The team kept the momentum going with a 931-760 win over Southern in the second game.
Two Blazers finished over 200, as junior Marissa Ferreira bowled a team-high 229 and junior Leah Walker finished with a 200. They fell to Tulane in the third game, 900-847, and then tournament-host Bethune-Cookman, 959-816.
The team rebounded to close out the day with a 918-885 win over Alabama A&M. Freshman Lauren Douglas bowled a 223 to lead the team in her only game of the day.
Individually, Ferreira finished as the top bowler for UAB with a total pinfall of 869 and an average of 173.8 per game to place 28th. Walker and Jennafer Mellott also finished in the top 40 on the day. Walker was 33rd with a total pinfall of 850 to average 170 and Mellott had a total pinfall of 839 to average 167.8.
The tournament will conclude with the bracket finals on Sunday. UAB will open the day against Tulane.
