Bowling Opens Spring At Mid-Winter Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB bowling team will return to action for the 2014-15 season at the Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark. The tournament will be held Friday through Sunday.
UAB (26-15) most recently finished ninth of 18 teams at the Track Kat Klash tournament in November. The Blazers earned a pair of wins over top-20 ranked teams in the final day to secure a ninth-place finish.
Individually, freshman Jessica Mellott was the lone Blazer in the top 25, finishing 21st overall. Mellott had a total pinfall of 1,177 to average 196.17. She had a high of 225 in the fourth game and finished over 200 in two of her six games.
Senior Marissa Ferreira was 35th with a 184.33 average, sophomore Madeleine McDuff finished 51st and senior Jennafer Mellott was 58th to all finish in the top 60 out of 117.
This year’s tournament schedule will feature baker total pins matches on Friday, five-person traditional contests on Saturday and the baker best-of-seven bracket on Sunday.
