Crookes Leads UAB at Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Lucy Crookes turned in her best time of the season to lead UAB to a 20th place finish Friday afternoon at the Crimson Classic from the Harry Pritchett Course.
Crookes registered a 34th place finish after posting a time of 17:54.28 to mark the fourth consecutive meet in which she has paced the Blazers.
"Lucy ran tough today, and it showed with her finish against some very good competition," head coach Matt Esche said.
Sophomore Rebecca Evans crossed the finish line in 72nd place following her time of 18:22.62.
"I was very pleased with the girls and the aggressive efforts they showed from the start," Esche said. "We are making big strides as a team."
Karis Jochen of Texas A&M captured the individual crown with a time of 16:46.23 and Oklahoma State won the team title.
Hannah Coffin finished third for UAB and Laurie Pray took fourth, with both runners racing to personal best times.
UAB returns to action Oct. 31 when the Blazers travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to take part in the Conference USA Championships.
