BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB cross country team puts the finishing touches on the month of October Saturday at 10 a.m. when the Blazers travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to take part in Conference USA Championships from Spero Kereiakes Park.
UAB enters the race coming off an impressive showing at the Crimson Classic, as Lucy Crookes, Hannah Coffin and Laurie Pray each registered season-best times to help the Blazers to a 20th place finish.
Crookes, who has paced UAB in the first four meets, turned in a 34th place finish with a time of 17:54.3. Sophomore Rebecca Evans, who owns a season-best time of 18:08.8, has finished second for the Blazers in every race thus far this season.
“The conference championship race is easily my favorite weekend of the year,” UAB head coach Matt Esche said. “Racing against conference competition always brings out the best in each of our student-athletes. If the past two weeks worth of workouts are any indication, we should be ready to perform the best we have as a team all year.”
An awards ceremony will be held after the completion of the race, and admission is free to the public.
