BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Fueled by a 12th place finish from senior Lucy Crookes, the UAB cross country team raced to an 11th place finish Saturday morning at the Conference USA Championships from Spero Kereiakes Park.
Crookes, who has paced UAB in every race this season, turned in a time of 18:06.0 en route to All-Conference USA second team accolades.
"Lucy ran a tough race today and truly earned all-conference honors," UAB head coach Matt Esche said.
Rebecca Evans placed second for the Blazers and 24th overall following her time of 18:38.7, while Hannah Coffin raced to her career-best time of 19:38.5 on her way to a 57th place finish.
"Hannah had a big breakthrough race, and I'm very excited about her progress throughout the fall," Esche added.
Cali Roper and Katie Jenson of Rice finished first and second, respectively to lead the Owls to the team title.
"Today was a bit of a tough day," Esche said. "We need to be stronger throughout the entire race and not just the start. We still have yet to put a time together in which everyone is clicking on the same day.
UAB returns to action Nov. 13 when the Blazers travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take part in NCAA Regionals.
