Blazers Wrap Up Solid Day At Samford Fall Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB’s men’s tennis team turned in a successful first day at the Samford Fall Invitational, winning six of nine matches.
The Blazers swept three doubles matches from South Alabama and split singles matches from the host Bulldogs.
In singles play, Christian Coetzee and Eric Komati continued their solid fall play with wins at the top of the lineup. Coetzee downed Fares Kilani of Samford, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, while Komati defeated Trey Carter, 6-4, 6-2. The Blazers’ other win in singles came from Henry Paiste who outlasted Jake Faundez, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Coetzee and Komati also teamed in doubles to post a 6-1 win over USA’s Gerhard Gruindelingh and Juan Troglia. UAB’s Trey McCombs and Kenton Parton were 7-6 (6) winners over Tukie Jacobs and Olivier Gingras with Oliver Poysti and Stepan Vancurik beating Lucas Gonzalez of USA and Weinacker of Birmingham-Southern, 6-3.
Play continues Saturday as UAB takes on Jacksonville State in doubles and South Alabama in singles.
