BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 2014 UAB cross country team was named an All-Academic team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday.
This marks the ninth straight year that the Blazers have been awarded this honor, dating back to the 2006 season.
"I believe this is our ninth consecutive year to be recognized for our academics," UAB head cross country coach Tony Houchin said. "I'm so proud of these women for taking both parts of being a student-athlete so seriously."
To qualify for All-Academic honors, a cross country team is required to enter at least five runners at an NCAA Division I regional cross country meet, while maintaining a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
On the field, the UAB cross country team posted an 18th-place finish at the NCAA South Regional. Lucy Crookes led all Blazers finishers in Tallahassee, Fla. with a career-best 6K time of 20:30.6. Rebecca Evans, Sarah Livett, Lauren Scott and Jenna Wesley accounted for the rest of the Blazers' scoring.
The UAB cross country team completed the requirements for the honor by earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.35.
