Day One Results
HOUSTON, Texas - The No. 16 UAB bowling team picked up a win in its six matches on the first of the Stephen F. Austin Stormin' Jack Classic Friday. The Blazers are currently 14th heading into the second day.
UAB (50-36) recorded a total pinfall of 5,521 in the six baker matches for an average of 184.0 per game. The Blazers had a tough slate as five of the six matches were against top-20 ranked teams.
In the first match of the day, UAB fell to No. 1 Nebraska, 1,050-892. The Blazers scored their highest total of the day with a 989 in the second match, but it wasn't enough to top No. 5 Stephen F. Austin's 1,087.
The third-straight match with a top-10 team came against Vanderbilt. It was a close match, but UAB fell to the Commodores, 924-883. The Blazers then lost the fourth match to No. 4 Central Missouri, 1,019-876 before falling to Monmouth, 1,029-929.
Heading into the final match UAB was still looking for its first win. The Blazers were paired with Prairie View A&M, and picked up the win 955-877 to close out the day on a high note.
The teams will be back in action for the six traditional match on Saturday. UAB is scheduled to play No. 7 Sam Houston State, Tulane, No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater, and Louisiana Tech twice. The final match will be determined based on standings.
