Men's Tennis Falls Twice To No. 38 Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. ---- The UAB men's tennis team fell twice Friday to No. 38 Auburn, dropping a 6-1 decision and a 4-1 match, at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
In the early match Friday, Blazer freshman Oliver Poysti provided UAB with its only point in the match, taking a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Tigers'Petar Tomic at the No. 6 singles position.
A pair of UAB players extended their matches to three sets before losing. The Blazers' Stepan Vancurik dropped a 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (3) contest with Auburn's Oliver Plasket at No. 5 singles. Meanwhile, Joseph Van Dooren of Auburn outlasted UAB's Christian Coetzee by a 6-4, 6-7 (0-1), 10-7.
In the later match, the Blazers grabbed a 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point. Martell and Luiz Felipe Pinto won 6-4 at No. 1 over Auburn's Marko Krickovic and Oliver Plakett while McSeveney and Coetzee were 7-6 (3) winners over the Auburn duo of Maxime Hinnisdaels and Dante Saleh at the No. 2 spot.
Auburn rallied quickly in singles, however, as the Tigers captured straight set wins at No. 3, 5 and 4 to take a 3-1 advantage/ Oliert sealed the victory for the Tigers with his 7-5 6-3 win at No. 2 over McSeveney.
UAB's Mitchell Martell was in the third set of his match at No. 1 singles while Egan Morriss also was playing in the third when the match was halted after the Tigers gained their decisive fourth point.
UAB will be back in action Sunday when the Blazers play host to Jacksonville State in a 1 p.m. CT match at the Lakeshore Tennis Center.
