Bowling Set To Compete In USBC Sectionals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The No. 16 UAB bowling team will make its first postseason appearance at the xbowling Intercollegiate Team Sectionals. The Blazers were selected for the regional qualifier in Smyrna, Tenn. that runs March 14-15.
UAB (58-49) finished the regular season with a winning record for the first time in school history. The Blazers are one of 64 teams to participate in the qualifier to advance to the xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships.
There will be four sectional qualifiers and the top four teams in each division at each sectional will advance to the team championships, which will be held April 15-18 at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kan.
The format will consist of 32 Baker games each day for a total of 64 Baker games. The top four teams based on total pinfall will advance. In addition, competitors at each of the four sectional events will bowl six games on March 13. The top four women at each sectional will advance to the national singles tournament on April 14 and 18 in Wichita.
UAB most recently competed in Smyrna at the Music City Classic. The Blazers closed out the regular season with a ninth place finish. Individually, senior Jennafer Mellott led the team with a 194.20 average to finish 39th out of 142 competitors. She recorded a total pinfall of 971 with two games over 200, including a season-high 255.
