Women's Tennis Splits Weekend Matches In Tennessee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's tennis team split two matches this past weekend, defeating Charlotte, 4-3, and falling to Middle Tennessee, 4-1, in Murfreesboro.
In Saturday's match vs. the 49ers, UAB picked up wins at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles positions, while taking the doubles point.
UAB took the early edge after Paula Castro and Caroline Faught were victorious at the No. 1 spot, 6-4, before Rachel Daniell and Amy Lowther picked up a win at the No. 3 position, 6-2.
Sophomore Pardis Kianoush, Daniell and Lowther were victorious in their singles matches, claiming wins of 6-2, 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 and 5-7, 6-3 and 6-3 respectively.
In Sunday's action vs. nationally ranked Middle Tennessee, the Blazers fell, 4-1. Faught and Castro claimed a win at the No. 1 doubles position, 8-7 (7-4), while Kianoush and Elaine Simon sealed the doubles point with a 8-6 victory at the No. 2 spot.
The Blazers return to the courts Thursday afternoon in a 1 p.m. CT home match vs. Chattanooga.
