Women's Tennis Rolls To 5-2 Win Vs. ULM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Led by wins from Pardis Kianoush and Rachel Daniell at the top two singles spots, the UAB women's tennis team defeated ULM, 5-2, on Friday to pick up its second-straight victory of the season.
The win improves UAB's record to 4-4 overall and gives the Blazers their first win against the Warhawks since March 2, 2008. ULM falls to 5-4 with the loss.
UAB's impressive day started with a win at the No. 1 and No. 3 double courts to claim the point. The team of Rachel Daniell and Amy Lowther (UAB) defeated Sophie Rufyikiri and Jana Duhanova (ULM), 8-2, at the third spot before Paula Castro and Caroline Faught (UAB) ousted Amy Olivier and Andi Botha (ULM), 8-3, at the top position.
UAB would then take wins at the top two and the bottom two singles positions to claim the 5-2 win. Kianoush ousted Rufyikiri, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7, while Daniell downed Oliver, 7-6, 6-2, at the No. 1 and 2 courts.
Ragon and Lowther each won with relative ease at the No. 5 and 6 courts, each taking straight-set wins.
The Blazers now make the quick turnaround and will host UTSA in the Conference USA opener on Sunday at Noon CT at George Ward Park.
