BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Three members of the UAB bowling team earned Honorable Mention All-National Tenpin Coaches Association Academic honors, the NTCA announced on Wednesday.
Seniors Leah Walker and Ali Long, along with sophomore Lauren Douglas earned the distinction. There are 163 student athletes from 32 schools represented in the yearly honor.
To be named Academic All-NTCA a student-athlete needed to receive votes in the All American voting at the end of the season. They must also have a 3.4 GPA for the school year 2014-2015 confirmed by their school. If a student athlete has received a 3.4 GPA for the year they are listed as honorable mention.
Walker earned the honor for the fourth time, being selected the All-NTCA Academic Team all four years. She had a season-best finish of seventh at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational after averaging 208 per game.
Douglas was named to the team last season as a freshman. The mathematics major competed in three tournaments this season. She bowled a season-best 196 against Wisconsin-Whitewater at the Music City Classic.
Long was selected for the first time to the All-NTCA Academic Team. She competed in six tournaments this season, recording a season-high game of 220 twice.
