Blazers Win Shots Battle, but Fall to Mercer, 5-1

MACON, Ga. – Despite tallying 22 shots compared to only 12 by the Bears (2-4-2), the UAB women’s soccer team (1-5) fell to Mercer, 5-1, at Bear Field on Sunday.
Mercer jumped to an early lead in the first half with a 3-0 advantage over the Blazers at halftime. The Bears would record two more goals in the second half to push their lead to 5-0.
Senior Paige Hanks scored the lone goal for UAB late in the second half off a penalty kick in the 77th minute.
Hanks and freshman Caroline Kehrer each recorded five shots for the Green and Gold on Sunday to lead the team.
Freshman Kelsey Daugherty was in-goal for the Blazers. The goalkeeper made one save for UAB.
UAB will return to action on Friday at Chattanooga when the Blazers face the Mocs. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
