LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The UAB cross country team competed in the 5k at the 16th Annual Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday morning, hosted by Louisville at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park. Rebecca Evans paved the way for the Blazers with a time of 17:51, just six seconds shy of her personal best.
"I was very happy with the ladies today," head coach Matt Esche said. "We had a solid run by almost everyone. Many of the girls were right at, or just off a season or lifetime personal record. It was great to see Rebecca get back under 18 minutes again, too.
Sarah Livett finished second for the Green and Gold at 18:13, her fastest time of 2016, while Hannah Coffin crossed the line at 18:28.
Jenna Hinds and Victoria Roughsedge finished neck-in-neck at 19:02, a
UAB's lineup was altered due to injury and illness, as Emily Drouin did not race due to illness. Meanwhile, Roughsedge was competing, but not at full capacity.
"The hard thing about today as a team was not having Emily racing and Victoria not at 100 percent," Esche added. "It's never easy going into that level of competition without a full deck of cards.
The Blazers head down the road to Tuscaloosa on October 14 to run in the Crimson Classic, hosted by Alabama.
