UAB Bowling Set to Compete in Mississippi

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The UAB Bowling team continues its 2016-17 season when the Blazers travel to Jackson State University to compete in the Jackson State Sonic Boom Nov. 11-13.
UAB is taking all nine members of its team to the competition, including Mississippi native Taylor Russell. Five bowlers will start each match.
This marks the first time Jackson State has hosted this tournament. Teams will bowl Baker Total Pinfall matches on Friday, while Saturday consists of Traditional Team matches. A champion will be crowned Sunday when the teams compete in Match Play.
"We are excited to participate in Jackson State's first ever Sonic Boom Invitational," head coach Michelle Crews said. "We are looking to keep a winning record with the first NTCA poll of the season coming out soon."
The Blazers' last outing was a trip to Teaneck, N.J., Oct. 28-30 where they finished 16th overall. In Russell's first collegiate tournament she finished 22nd out of 189 bowlers.
