WHITEWATER, Wisc.- The National Tenpin Coaches Association released its weekly poll and the UAB Bowling team found itself at No. 23.
“We are officially back to being a nationally ranked program. Considering that our first few events we were just getting our feet wet and getting the jitters out, to be ranked No. 23 is a proud moment for me,” head coach Michelle Crews said. “The girls are starting to get comfortable and figuring out how to handle the collegiate atmosphere. We have a lot to be thankful for this year and this is only the beginning for a talented group of ladies.”
UAB is 14-10 through three tournaments this season. They placed 16th at the FDU Jamboree, and second at the Jackson State Sonic Boom Nov. 13.
The young Blazers squad is led by Freshman Taylor Russell and Redshirt Junior Madeleine McDuff. Russell made back to back all tournament teams at the Jackson State Sonic Boom and UMES Hawk Classic. McDuff, the team’s lone returner, was named first-team all UMES Hawk Classic after placing 32nd.
The No. 23 ranking is the first time UAB has cracked the poll since being No. 20 in April 2015. The Blazers take a break for Thanksgiving before returning to the lanes Dec. 2 for the All State Sugar Bowl.
