KENNER, La.- The No. 23 UAB Bowling team is in eighth place after day one of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational.
“While today didn’t quite go as we had hoped, we have a lot of notes and made adjustments so we can attack the lanes a little differently tomorrow,” head coach Michelle Crews said. “Our scores themselves were not terrible but we know what we are capable of and we will continue pushing to be better every time we hit the lanes.”
After dropping the first two matches of the day, the Blazers rebounded strong to win two of their last three matches of the day. UAB defeated Grambling State 971-775 in match three, and then hung on in match four to take down Tulane 938-918.
The day proved tough for all 11 teams in the field with each team suffering at least one loss. Stephen F. Austin leads the tournament overall after amassing a day one pin fall of 5,058. Tulane is close behind totaling 5,033 with Vanderbilt and Valparaiso on the Green Wave’s heels.
Day two begins at 8:30 a.m. with each team set to play six Traditional matches.
