No. 23 UAB Bowling Goes 2-1 on Final Day

KENNER, La.- The No. 23 UAB Bowling team used a 2-1 record on the final day of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational to finish in seventh place on Sunday.
UAB drew La Tech as its first foe of the day in best of seven match play. The Blazers picked up wins in two of the first three games and then tied the Bulldogs in the fourth. Coming out of the tie game, UAB finished the match going to 2-0 to pick up the 4-1-1.
The win set up a match with Alabama State where the Hornets took down the Blazers in six sets to win the match 4-1-1.
The final match of the tournament provided some drama. After trading victories in the first four games with Texas Southern, UAB picked up a win in the fifth and a loss in the sixth forcing a game seven. The winner takes all game would be decided by one pin that fell in favor of the Blazers locking up a 4-3 victory, and a seventh place finish.
Individually, Taylor Russell finished 16th overall bowling a 206.33 average over six games. Madeleine McDuff finished 37th, Caitlin Cunningham 39th, Alexa Fernandez 41st, Rachel Strogin 46th, and Anastasia Hurley 49th to round out the Blazers in the top 50.
Tulane took home team honors beating defending the 2016 National Champion Stephen F. Austin in five games.
The Blazers take a break for the holidays before returning to the lanes on Jan. 13 when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark. to compete in the Mid-Winter Invitational.
