UAB Blanks Kennesaw State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s tennis team earned a completed victory as it blanked Kennesaw State en route to a 7-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at George Ward.
While the Owls put up a tremendous fight in doubles action, the Blazers pulled out victories on courts one and three to give UAB the 1-0 advantage.
"We played a solid match today and we continued to work on the things that we need to do to improve," head coach Mark Tija said. "This weekend's matches will help us prepare for conference foe MTSU next Sunday."
Paradis Kianoush and Elaine Simon put up a great performance on court one with an easy 6-1 victory over Kennesaw’s Hopton/Perez. Junior Catherine Ragon and freshman McKenna Root finished the job with a 6-2 defeat over Dean/De Wot on court three.
In singles action, Root continued her dominating day with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court three to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead.
Her doubles partner, Ragon, brought in UAB’s third point of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hopton on court four. The victory was the junior’s second of the season.
Lynch represented the Blazers at No. 6 in dual match play. The freshman hailing from Ottawa, Canada, clinched the victory for UAB with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cantrell.
UAB hits the court on for a Valentines Day matchup next Sunday against league foe Middle Tennessee. The match between the Blue Raiders and Blazers is slated to begin at noon.
