DELAND, Fla. – The UAB men’s tennis team (9-5) earned a 4-0 sweep against the Stetson Hatters on Saturday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Blazers clinched an early 1-0 lead, thanks to their doubles play. Christian Coetzee and Luiz Felipe Pinto claimed a 6-1 win on court one to give UAB an advantage. On court three, Stepan Vancurik and Eric Komati earned the doubles victory with a 6-3 decision.
In singles action, Mitchell Martell and Komati quickly spurted out on courts one and two, respectively. Martell earned a quick 6-1 decision in the first set, before jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the second set on his way to extending UAB’s lead to 2-0 with a 6-3 win.
Komati followed suit with a 6-1 win in the opening set, following a 6-3 win in set two to secure the point and a 3-0 lead for the Blazers.
After opening the first set with a 6-3 win to take a 1-0 lead in the matchup, Coetzee battled back in the second set to claim a 6-3 win, to clinch the victory for the Blazers, 4-0.
UAB continues its road swing as it heads to UCF on Sunday. The match is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
