TUCSON, Ariz. – The UAB women’s tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Sacramento State on Friday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
The Hornets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to wins on courts two and three in doubles action. Pardis Kianoush and Elaine Simon earned their fifth win in the last six matches in doubles as they topped the Hornets’ top tandem of Alina Soltanici and Deimante Bulatovaite.
Sacramento State extended its lead to 2-0 with a win over Amy Lowther on court four, due to injury. Anna-Maria Nau topped Sophie Dodds, 6-2, 6-0, on court five to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead over the Blazers.
Reghan Lynch earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sofia Wicker for UAB to cut the lead to two, 3-1.
However, despite three straight wins for Kianoush, she fell to Soltanici, 6-1, 6-3, in the top seed, which allowed the Hornets to claim the victory.
The Blazers will take time off to enjoy Easter before returning to the courts for a Florida swing as they take on FIU and UCF next week.
