RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech knocked five home runs as the Lady Techsters topped the UAB softball team, 15-7, in a slug fest at the Lady Techster Softball Complex on Sunday.
UAB (17-22, 7-5) dropped its first conference series of the season as Louisiana Tech (21-13, 3-6) topped the Blazers two games to one.
We came out here to win the series, and we had several obstacles in our way, including ourselves,” head coach Marla Townsend said. “We are going to move on from this. Congratulations to Louisiana Tech. I’m proud of our hitters for stepping up to get 11 hits, and we gave ourselves opportunities. Several things we did right, and that’s what we are going to focus on. We are going to eliminate the freebies in the future.”
Four Blazers recorded multiple hits in Sunday’s series finale, including junior JoJo Fallen and senior Sara Beth Williamson finishing a perfect 3-for-3 and 2-for-2 at the plate, respectively. Junior Mary Warren drove in two RBIs to bring her RBI total to 11 this week.
Fallen knocked UAB’s first hit of the game with a one-out single to left field in the top of the first. Williamson followed with an infield single to the pitcher to put two Blazers on in front of UAB’s top slugger, Warren.
The junior extended her reached-base streak to 15 games with a single to right center, driving home Fallen to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Techsters answered in the bottom of the second as Krysta Tutsch led off with a home run to right center field to lock the game up at 1-1.

Senior Caitlin Attfield led off the top of the third with a fielding error on the Lady Techsters, advancing to second on the play. The senior scored on an RBI single to center field from Fallen, who advanced to second on the play.
Williamson delivered the sacrifice bunt to advance Fallen to third before Warren knocked an RBI bunt single to cut the Lady Techsters’ lead to 5-3.
The Lady Techsters extended their lead to 10-3 in the bottom of the fourth after three walks, two hits and one UAB error.
