BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s tennis team swept a pair of matches against Alabama-Huntsville on Wednesday at the Lakeshore Tennis Center, improving their overall record to 13-7
Six Blazers, Mitchell Martell, Oliver Poysti, Luiz Felipe Pinto, Christian Coetzee, Henry Paiste and Stepan Vancurik, swept their singles matches as UAB blanked Alabama-Huntsville in both matches.
UAB returns to the courts Thursday for Senior Day as it hosts Jackson State at 1 p.m.
UAB 4, Alabama-Huntsville 0
Eric Komati and Vancurik gave the Blazers a 1-0 advantage in doubles with a 6-0 sweep of Harrsion Stone and Rodrigo Palomino on court three. Martell and Pinto gave UAB a 1-0 lead, which it would never relinquish, with a 6-1 win on court two.
In singles, Coetzee extended the Blazers’ lead with a 6-0, 6-4 win on court five. Poysti snapped a three-game skid with a 7-5, 6-2 win in the two spot. Pinto helped the Blazers clinch a 4-0 win with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court four to earn the first win of the day.

In the second match of the day, Komati and Vancurik gave the Blazers a quick lead in doubles for the second straight match as they defeated Arthur Menezes and Murilo Basso on court three. Coetzee and Parton clinched a 1-0 lead in the top slot with a 6-1 dominating win.
On court one in singles, Poysti notched his second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win in his debut in the top-seeded court.
Pinto added to the UAB lead, 3-0, with his second singles victory of the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-2 convincing win on court three.
Martell clinched the win for UAB on court two, while Coetzee added an insurance point on court five, 6-2, 6-1.
