UAB Trio Earns All-Tournament Team Honors

DENTON, Texas – After leading the UAB softball team to the championship finale for the first time since the 2002 season, senior Caitlin Attfield and juniors JoJo Fallen and Cara Goodwin were named to the Conference USA Championship All-Tournament Team as announced by the league office.
Fallen led UAB at the plate over the Blazers’ four tournament games with a .538 average, .538 on-base percentage and a .692 slugging percentage. Adding to her outstanding defensive plays in left field, Fallen knocked seven hits with two doubles and scored two runs.
The junior recorded hits in all four contests with two multi-hit games, including going 3-for-3 in UAB’s elimination game against Southern Miss during Saturday’s semifinals.
Attfield was impressive throughout the tournament, robbing opponents of hits with leaping dives at shortstop. The senior closed the tournament with a .333 average and a .417 slugging percentage as she knocked four hits with one double and scored a team-leading three runs.
In the Blazers’ semifinal contest against Florida Atlantic, Attfield was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.
Goodwin started all four tournament games in the circle for the Blazers as she closed the weekend with a 2-2 record and a 2.38 ERA. Goodwin pitched 17.2 innings and racked up eight strikeouts as she held opponents to a .203 average.
The junior dealt a three-hit shutout against Southern Miss to lead the Blazers to a tournament opening victory. The Cullman, Alabama, native followed with a must-win game against the Golden Eagles during Saturday’s semifinal elimination game as Goodwin propelled the Blazers’ to a 5-1 victory.
The All-Tournament honors are the first for their careers for all three Blazers. UAB fell to top-seeded No. 22 Florida Atlantic, 6-0, Sunday to finish runners-up at the 2016 C-USA Championship.
