UAB Bowlers Compete in Junior Gold Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Four members of the UAB Bowling Team are competing at the nationally recognized Junior Gold Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind. held July 16-25.
"We are very excited to have four Blazers competing at this years' Junior Gold Championships," head coach Michelle Crews said. "We have never had this many Blazers competing at the championships in the same year, and that is a testament to how competitive this year's recruiting class is. I am excited to watch them compete this week as we approach the beginning of our season."
Bowlers must be Junior Gold members to qualify for the championships with qualifying events held throughout the country. To be a Junior Gold member bowlers must first be USBC Standard Youth Members and purchase a Junior Gold membership before competing in the qualifier. The top bowlers from each site then move on to compete in Indianapolis and a shot at making the Junior Team USA.
The members of the team competing are redshirt freshman Caitlin Cunningham, and freshmen Taylor Russell, Rachel Strogin, and Sierra Lewis.
Russell has been competing in the Junior Gold tournament since 2012 and won the 2013 U-15 division. Lewis and Strogin have competed in three Junior Golds, while Cunningham is making her first appearance.
