HOUSTON – The No. 21 UAB Bowling team fell two spots on the final day to finish in 12th place at the Stormin’ Ladyjack Invitational.
“We had a pretty good day but everyone we bowled against bowled slightly better,” head coach Michelle Crews said. “The team fought hard all weekend and to finish in 12th in this tough field is a testament to how hard they’ve been working. We will find out in a couple of week if we make it to the postseason at USBC Sectional and we will continue working as hard as we can to end the season as high we can.”
UAB fell to Maryland Eastern Shore, 4-2, in the first match of the day picking up wins in game one and game four. The loss set up a game with Prairie View A&M who took down the Blazers, 4-1.
In the days’ final match UAB squared off against Delaware State. The Blazers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before dropping the next three games. Facing elimination in game six the Blazers took down the Hornets, 173-148, but then bowled their lowest score of the day in game seven giving Delaware State the victory.
No. 3 McKendree entered the final day in top spot in the overall competition and remained there taking home team honors.
UAB will find out the status of its post-season when the selection committee releases its list in two weeks. That will determine the site of the USBC Sectionals.
The Blazers final regular season tournament is the Columbia 300 Music City Classic set for March 17-19 in Smyrna, Tenn.
