ARLINGTON, Texas -- The No. 21 UAB Bowling team received news that the team had been waiting to hear all season: in its first season back it would be headed to compete in post-season play.
"I am very excited that in our first season back the young ladies got the job done and qualified for USBC Sectionals," head coach Michelle Crews said. "They have worked so hard this year and have grown in each event. They are all peaking at the right time and we hope that it translates to some high scores at sectionals."
UAB owns a 48-39 record this season including two second place finishes at the Jackson State Sonic Boom and the FAMU Rattler Invitational. The Blazers earned their highest ranking of the season with a spot at No. 21 on Feb. 1.
The Blazers are headed to the Dallas sectional on March 11-12. Play begins Saturday with eight four-game baker blocks beginning at 8:30 a.m. Teams wrap up competition on Sunday with eight more four-game baker blocks. The top-four teams with the highest pin-fall will qualify for the USBC National Championships set to begin April 17 in Baton Rouge, La.
UAB will be in a field with Baker, Central Oklahoma, Grand Canyon, Iowa Central CC, Lindenwood, Midland, Newman, Sacred Heart, Spring Hill, St. Ambrose, Stephen F. Austin, West Texas A&M, and Wichita State.
The tournament will take place at USA Bowl.
