UAB Softball Falls to Lipscomb in Five Innings

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team fell to Lipscomb University, 9-0, in five innings Wednesday at Mary Bowers Field.
UAB (9-15, 2-1) finished the day with no runs scored on two hits and left three runners on base.
Destini England was the first Blazer to have a hit. The freshman singled through the left side in the bottom of the third inning with two outs.
The final hit for the Blazers came in the fourth inning when Analyse Petree led off with a single to left field.
Lipscomb (18-7, 0-0) scored three runs in the second inning to get things started for the Lady Bison, and another single run was scored in the fourth inning to extend the lead 4-0.
The fifth inning saw five Lady Bison runs and clinched the 9-0 win after six hits were recorded in the final inning.
Megan Smith (3-2) suffered the loss in the circle for the Blazers. The junior right hander gave up four runs on seven hits and recorded three strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.
Mandy Jordan (12-3) got the win for the Lady Bison. She tossed a complete game, tallied nine strikeouts and gave up only two hits in the victory.
The Blazers will travel to San Antonio, Texas, and will face UTSA in their second conference series of the season. A doubleheader will be played Friday starting at 3 p.m. and the series finale will be played Sunday at 11 a.m.
