SMYRNA, Tenn. - The No. 22 UAB Bowling team relied on its two returners to pace the squad on the second day of the Columbia 300 Music City Classic.
The Blazers got off to a strong 2-0 picking up victories over Long Island Brooklyn and Maryville. UAB then dropped consecutive matches to No. 4 Sam Houston State and Texas Southern before rallying in the final math to take down Jackson State.
"Overall we had a decent day," head coach Michelle Crews said. "We missed some spares in crucial times that ultimately cost us two of our matches but we are in 14th in a very strong field. We are in a good position going into the final day of the season."
Redshirt junior Madeleine McDuff led the young Blazer team bowling games of 218, 169, 182, 144 and 211 for a 184.8 average. The Katy, Texas native finished the tournament in 58th. Redshirt freshman Caitlin Cunningham also helped the UAB cause bowling a 182.0 average over five games to finish 65th.
UAB wraps up its season Sunday morning with matchplay. The Blazers open up the day against St. Francis on lanes 35 and 36 at 8:30. Fans can watch the action live on InsideBowling.com with Mike Flanigan on the call.
