Blazers Fall to ODU in Quarterfinals of C-USA Tournament

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The UAB men's tennis team fell 4-2 in a tightly contested match to No. 2-seeded Old Dominion on Friday morning in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championships, hosted by Middle Tennessee.
DOUBLES
The Blazers opened the match with a 1-0 lead thanks to doubles victories on courts two and three. Kenton Parton and Nikolai Manchev secured a 6-1 victory on court three while Eric Komati and Anru Fourie earned a tightly contested 7-6 win on court two.
On court one, Tim Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez were knotted at 6-all.
SINGLES
The Monarchs tied the match up, 1-all, with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Gonzalez on court three. ODU took its first lead, 2-1, with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Komati on court two.
The Monarchs claimed their third straight singles victory on court four over Manchev, 6-4, 6-3. Parton cut the lead to 3-2 as he knocked off Justin Herrera 6-3, 6-4 on court six to improve to 6-2 on court six this season.
It all came down to courts one and five where Dollman and Fourie were battling.
After dropping a tight 7-6 set to No. 50 Adam Moundir, Dollman forced a third set with a 6-2 win. The freshman was unable to complete the comeback as he fell 6-2 in the third set for the ODU win.
