WHITEWATER, Wisc. - After a successful first season back in competition, the UAB Bowling team received a 20th place ranking in the final National Tenpin Coaches Association Poll.
"As expected nothing much really changed in final poll except for the top-eight that competed in the National Championship," head coach Michelle Crews said. "However, it is still nice to see UAB in the top-20 again. We had some great meetings with the team as the girls finish up their semester and get ready to go home for the summer. All of our team has some work to do to get better both mentally and physically, but they are all committed to their goals and I fully expect them to come back better and stronger than ever setting a great example to our incoming freshman."
The Blazers went 55-43 during the season including a second place finish at the FAMU Rattler Invitational and the Jackson State Sonic Boom. UAB rolled upsets over nationally ranked programs in a number of events throughout the season.
Freshman Taylor Russell was named to the All-American ballot becoming the first Blazer in program history to be named to be put up for an All-American award. Crews was named UAB's Coach of the Year at the inaugural Green and Golden Globes ceremony.
UAB looks to build on the success of the 2016-17 season with seven of its eight bowlers coming back losing only Madeleine McDuff. In addition to the seven returners, the Blazers have added three more bowlers this far to their signing class.
