UAB Softball Falls in Series Finale Against Louisiana Tech

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team fell in the series finale with Louisiana Tech, 16-5, Sunday afternoon at Mary Bowers Field.
Louisiana Tech (26-14, 9-3) struck early and got on the board in the first with two runs when Pauline Tufi singled to left field and plated Morgan Turkoly and Tori Charters.
The Lady Techsters added two more runs in the second. The first came when Charters singled to left field and plated Karlee Jenson, and the final run of the inning came off a Turkoly single that scored Charters.
UAB (13-25, 5-7) got in on the scoring action in the bottom of the second inning when Mary Warren sent her second home run of the season over the center field wall to shrink the lead, 4-1.
Two more runs were scored in the third inning for Louisiana Tech when Jazlyn Crowder doubled down the right field line to plate Jenson and Katie Smith to extend the lead 6-1.
The Blazers plated a single run in the bottom of the third inning when Anaylse Petree singled to short stop and scored Natalie Erwin to shrink Lousiana Tech’s lead to 6-2.
Louisiana Tech added a single run in the fourth after Marilyn Rizzato reached on a fielder’s choice and Turkoly displayed some heads up base running.
UAB rallied back in the sixth inning and scored three runs to make the score 7-5. The first run came when freshman Rian Brown recorded her first collegiate hit and singled to left field to score pinch runner Katlyn Sides.
The final two runs of the inning came when Danii Fernandez singled to right field to plate speedy freshmen Erwin and Destini England.
Louisiana Tech plated nine runs in the seventh inning to put things away and clinch the 16-5 win.
Cara Goodwin (2-9) suffered the loss in the circle for the Blazers. She gave up four runs on five hits and walked two batters in 1.2 innings of work.
Jenny Chapman (2-3) celebrated the win for the Lady Techsters. She gave up only three runs on four hits in 2.2 innings pitched and Preslee Gallaway recorded her second save of the season.
The Blazers will be back on the diamond Tuesday April 11 as they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face No. 11/12 Alabama for the second time this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
