Blazers Increase 2017 Signing Class to Four
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB Bowling head coach Michelle Crews announced the signing of Cameron Snyder and Cayla Davidson as additions to the 2017-18 team.
Snyder, a Tuscaloosa, Ala. native, becomes just the second bowler in program history to hail from the state of Alabama. A member of the Southern Scratch Junior Bowl Association (SSJBA), she won the 2017 Masters Tournament held in February as well as the Classic Division at the 2017 Super Bowl held in June on the Blazers' home lanes of Vestavia Bowl. Her successes on the SSJBA have qualified her for the 2017 Junior Gold Championships set to take place in July of this year in Ohio.
Snyder is no stranger to the Birmingham area as is also a member of the Greater Birmingham USBC Youth All-City Girls team. She placed first in both Scratch and Handicap at the 2017 Championships held in May. In addition to the Greater Birmingham team, Snyder has participated in the Oak Mountain Lanes Youth Athlete Development League for the previous two years.
Crews on Snyder: "I am thrilled to announce the singing of Cameron. She has been bowling for most of her life and has overcome a lot in the recent years. Her drive and determination to come back better and stronger than ever is what caught my attention. I've seen her name around the state the last few years but then all of a sudden it was everywhere. She is out bowling in some competitive tournaments and gaining valuable experience that is going to help her grow in the long run. She is an all-around great person who comes from a great family and I am excited to see her join our amazing Blazer family."
Davidson, a Manassas, Va. Native, adds a wealth of experience to the UAB squad as she began bowling at the age of nine. She was the 2016 Virginia Pepsi State Tournament Champion, a tournament that she placed in second in 2015. Davidson also had consecutive gold medal finishes at the 2015 and 2016 Commonwealth Games.
Recently she qualified for the 2017 National Junior Gold Tournament with fellow Blazer teammate Snyder. Davidson intends to major in psychology upon arrival on campus.
Crews on Davidson: "I am so excited to announce our first signee from the state of Virginia. Cayla brings a tremendous amount of competitive bowling experience to the table. She has worked very hard the last few years and it shows. I knew very early that I wanted Cayla to join our team because of her vibrant personality and solid bowling game. She has a unique game that attracted some of the top ranked NCAA programs but we are grateful that she chose to continue her academic and bowling career at UAB. I am very excited to see all of the wonderful things she will do as a Blazer."
Snyder and Davison join Elise London and Samantha Johnson as newcomers to the 2017-18 squad. After just one season back in action the Blazers finished the year in the No. 20 spot in the final National Tenpin Coaches Association rankings and lose just bowler from that team.
