CLEVELAND, Ohio – Nine members of the UAB Bowling team are set to compete this week at the nationally recognized Junior Gold Championships presented by the Brands of Ebonite in Cleveland, Ohio. Play is slated to run July 15-22 at various bowling centers around the Cleveland area.
"I am very excited to begin an amazing week in Cleveland," head coach Michelle Crews said. "This is the most Blazers we have ever had competing in this event at the same time. While recruiting is my goal out here, I cannot wait to see how our current Blazers compete. This is a good chance to take notes on their game as we get ready for them to return to campus very soon."
The Junior Gold Tournament is an event hosted every year where bowlers from across the country compete for a chance to bowl on the Junior Team USA. The tournament has three divisions for the female group – U12 Girls, U15 Girls and U20 girls.
UAB is placing four members in the field from last year's squad that finished No. 20 in the nation – Caitlin Cunningham, Sierra Lewis, Taylor Russell and Rachel Strogin.
Joining the returners at the tournament are all five of the Blazers' newcomers set to arrive on campus this fall – Samantha Johnson, Elise London, Cameron Snyder, Cayla Davidson and Morgan Mullinax.
Fans can follow all of the action on Bowl.com where a live-stream will run of the event until the field is cut down on the final day. The final round of competition will be taped and run at a later time by the CBS Sports Network.
