Cunningham Named MEAC Bowler of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – After notching a career-best performance at the Kat Klash Classic this past weekend, redshirt junior Caitlin Cunningham has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Bowler of the Week (MEAC), the league office announced on Tuesday.
With UAB competing in its first season as members of the MEAC, Cunningham is the first Blazer in program history to earn a weekly conference honor.
"I am so proud of Caitlin for earning her first conference bowler of the week honor," head coach Michelle Crews said. "She has been working so hard on her game and to see some of her individual goals come to fruition is truly amazing. This is our first year in the MEAC and earning this award as we head into our first conference meet is the spark we needed as we head to compete in Delaware."
The Honolulu, Hawaii, native could not have asked for a better start in Houston, opening the tournament with a 248 against Texas Southern. She followed that effort up with a season-high 268 in her second Traditional match against Southern.
Her next three matches came against ranked opponents, scoring a 197 against (10) Tulane, a 190 against MEAC-foe Maryland-Eastern Shore and a 182 against (22) Maryville. She finished the competition with a total pinfall of 1,085 and a 217.00 average en route to a second-place individual finish and All-Tournament honors.
Through 10 matches this season, Cunningham leads the team with 2,025 pins knocked down and a 202.50 average, while boasting a team-best four 200+ matches.
UAB returns to the lanes this weekend, November 10-11, when it travels to Dover, Delaware, to compete in its first-ever MEAC competition. More information on the crucial conference event can be found here.
