UAB Sweeps North Alabama for Third-Straight Win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team got off to a hot start in doubles play and never looked back as the Blazers recorded a perfect 7-0 sweep over North Alabama at the UAB Tennis Courts on Friday.

UAB (3-3, 0-1) has now won three-straight matches this season and has defeated North Alabama in five straight seasons.

The Blazers got off to a quick start in the match, taking a 1-0 lead after all three courts finished with scores of 6-2. Anru Fourie and Kenton Parton improved to 4-1 on the season in doubles play with their victory on Court 3, while Tim Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez improved to 2-2.

Henry Paiste and Nikolai Manchev are now 2-1 in doubles play on the season.

Giovani Pasini earned the Blazers' first singles victory of the day after winning his first set 6-4 and seeing his opponent retired. Parton put the Blazers up 3-0 by toppling Austin Racine 6-1, 6-1 to put the Blazers up 2-0 in the match.

Dollman continues to be the Blazers' best competitor in singles play, improving to 4-1 on the year with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over UNA's Jason Pimenta to clinch the UAB victory.

With the match already sealed, Gonzalez claimed a victory on Court 2 (6-2, 7-6(3)) followed by a 4-6, 6-3, 11-7 win by Marlon Goering on Court 5, his first of the season.

Tom el Safadi added his second victory of the year on Court 6, taking down Gustavo Girao 6-2, 6-1 for his second singles win of the season.

UAB returns to action next weekend as the Blazers head to Des Moines, Iowa, for four matches over the span of two days.
