Blazers Blank Murray State for Third Straight Win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team turned in a 4-0 shutout of Murray State on Friday afternoon from George Ward Park to claim its third consecutive victory.
UAB took the doubles point and built a 1-0 lead after winning at No. 3 and No. 1. Jana Hecking and Megan Bertrands posted a 6-1 victory before Marlene Herrmann and Sonia Grzywocz clinched the point with a 6-3 win.
Sophie Dodds put the Blazers ahead 2-0 following her 6-1, 6-0 win over Sara Loncarevic at No. 5. Hana Sisirak followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 over Jeanne Masson, and Herrmann sealed the win at No. 2 after she defeated Stasya Sharapova 6-1, 6-0.
"We played well in doubles today with an aggressive style of play," UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. "We will definitely need to bring that attitude and energy tomorrow when we face one of the top teams in our conference.
UAB opens Conference USA play Saturday at 9 a.m. when the Blazers welcome WKU to George Ward Park.
