WHITEWATER, Wisc. – After one of the most successful seasons in program history, the UAB bowling finished team 16th in the final National Tenpin Coaches Associate (NTCA) poll the league office announced on Wednesday.
The Blazers amassed a 60-41 record over eight events during the 2017-18 season, including a team title at the 2017 Hornet Classic.
"While it is disappointing that we didn't stay in the top-15 this season, we cannot hang our heads about the amazing year we had," head coach Michelle Crews said. " We didn't finish our NCAA season as strong as we started, but we still had so many positives and things we learned this year.
This best part is that we are not done yet. We get to go to the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships in two weeks, we had our highest win-loss percentage in program history, qualified for our third post season and our earned first ever national championship berth. Our goal is to keep moving as high as possible, but we cannot let this poll define our season."
Taylor Russell led the Blazers this season, bowling a 208.4 average over 40 matches. She took home two All-Tournament Honors, including winning the individual title at the Hornet Classic.
The Blazers close their remarkable season with a trip to the USBC National Championship on April 19-21 in Lincoln, Neb.
