Women’s Tennis Suffers 6-1 Defeat at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – UAB's Jana Hecking won a three-set match in fourth singles, but the Blazer women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon at A.J. Pitts Tennis Center.
Hecking improved her singles record to a team-best 5-2 mark with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Tamara Racine, but Mississippi State won on all other courts and took the doubles point for the 6-1 victory.
MSU (7-2) won doubles with victories on court two and three. With the point secured, court one was left unfinished.
The Bulldogs moved ahead 4-0 with straight set victories on courts one, five and six. Hecking then gave UAB (2-5) its lone point of the day with her victory on court four.
Both courts two and three were pushed to three sets, but MSU won both of them as UAB's Alexandra Shchipakina lost a heartbreaker 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in second singles, while Sophie Dodds fell 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in third singles.
The Blazers return to action next Saturday, Feb. 16, when they play their first C-USA match of the season at WKU.
