UAB Falls to Middle Tennessee 75-55

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The UAB women's basketball team fell to Middle Tennessee 75-55 on Saturday afternoon.
Zakyia Weathersby led the Blazers (12-7, 5-3 C-USA) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Destinee McGhee added 11 points off the bench, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field including two 3-pointers.
Sor Saar led all players with 17 points and six assists and Courtney Whitson had 16 for the Lady Raiders (15-4, 7-2 C-USA).
Middle Tennessee opened the game up by scoring the first nine points and took a double-digit lead at 18-8 with 1:58 left in the 1st quarter. UAB responded by scoring the final seven points of the quarter to cut the deficit to 18-15.
Maria Roters tied the game at 18-18 after scoring the first three points of the 2nd quarter. However, the Blazers only got two field goals the rest of the way as the Lady Raiders took a 32-23 lead into halftime.
UAB made it a one possession contest at 32-29 after Weathersby, Kylee Schneringer and Emily Klaczek each scored consecutive baskets to start the 3rd quarter. Middle responded with a 9-2 run to regain a double-figure lead at 31-41 with 5:50 left.
The Blazers were held scoreless for the first 2:45 of the 4th quarter. By then Middle had built a 22-point lead at 61-39. The Lady Raiders would go ahead by as many as 26 points with 2:17 left.
Up next, is UAB's rescheduled contest against North Texas on Feb. 7 at Bartow Arena. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
