NORFOLK, Va. – The UAB men's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 18 Middle Tennessee in its Conference USA Championship quarterfinal match on Friday afternoon at Old Dominion's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
UAB (8-15) made things difficult for the nationally-ranked Blue Raiders in doubles, forcing the first point of Friday's match to come down to the result on court two.
UAB's pairing of Michal Lusovsky and Roman Postolka earned a 6-2 win on court one over Middle Tennessee's Francisco Rocha and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen, the No. 54 doubles duo in the nation. The Blazers' win on court one forced a winner-take-all match on court two for the doubles point, which is where Middle Tennessee's Stijn Stump and Pavel Motl outlasted Parker Bradbary and Vojtech Podzemny 6-4 to take a 1-0 lead.
In singles, the Blue Raiders earned wins on courts five, four and six to seal the 4-0 victory. On court one, Lusovsky earned a 7-6 (7-2) first-set victory over Middle Tennessee ace Stijn Slump, the ITA's No. 72 player in singles. Lusovsky and Slump's match went unfinished with Lusovsky holding a 7-6, 1-3 advantage.
The Blazers finish the 2022 season with an 8-15 record, holding a 4-3 record in home matches.
