UAB and East Carolina Draw 1-1 in AAC Home Opener

BIRMINGHAM –Asha Zuniga's header off a Graycen Elliott free kick found the back of the net in the 87th minute, giving UAB the equalizer in its 1-1 draw with East Carolina (6-2-3, 1-0-1 AAC) on Thursday night at PNC Field.
After a scoreless 1st half, the Blazers (4-3-3, 0-0-2 AAC) fell behind on Sydney Schnell's goal in the 74th minute.
UAB set up its goal when Avery Berryman drew a foul outside the box on the right side. On the free kick, Elliott fed the ball to Zuniga, whose header found its way past four ECU defenders and into the left corner of the net.
Eve Beyer faced 12 shots along with 11 corners and made six saves on the evening.
"This was another tough conference game, there are no weak teams in this league," said head coach Lisa Mann. "Asha stepped up big time in a moment when we needed it."
The Blazers hit the road to face Florida Atlantic on Sept. 28. The Owls (4-4-2, 1-1-0 AAC) defeated Temple earlier tonight. The next home match is Oct. 5 against USF.

Blazer Buddies is the new official kids club of UAB Athletics and is open to all kids ages 12 and under. Blazer Buddies will receive a Blazer Buddies Kids Club ID which grants admission to all home men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, women's basketball, softball, and baseball games.
