BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer (1-1-1) tied Samford (1-1-1) on the road with a final score of 3-3.
Samford led early in the contest after a goal from Fleming Dean in the 14th minute. The Blazers were next on the board in the 25th minute when Abbey Burns equalized the match with her second goal of the season.
As the first half was coming close to an end, Burns netted her second goal of the game in the 38thminute to put the UAB up 2-1 heading into halftime. It was her third goal of the season.
In the second half, the Bulldogs were able to respond in the 79th minute with a penalty kick goal from Ella Simpson to even up the score 2-2. A few minutes later, Samford took the lead (3-2) with a goal by Caroline Donovan in the 83rd minute. Donovan's goal was assisted by Simpson and Clare Nicholas.
A little over a minute later after Samford's goal, UAB tied the match with a goal from Sydney Bolinger, assisted from Maia Sirota. The goal marked Bolinger's first collegiate goal and Sirota's second assist of the season.
Up next, the Blazers will be back at PNC Field against Troy on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. CT.
