Women’s Tennis Ranked No. 68
2/20/2025 12:50:00 PM | Women's Tennis
BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's tennis is ranked No. 68 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the first time in over two decades.
"It's a little bit of validation for all the hard work the team has been doing and the improvements they have been making," head coach Mark Tjia said. "Ultimately though, we want to be in the final rankings and in consideration for post season play at the end of the year. So, it's back to work today."
The ranking comes after the Blazers defeated Minnesota 4-2 last Saturday. UAB came back from behind after the Gophers secured the doubles points.
The Green and Gold were able to bounce back in singles taking four of the six courts. Vannesa Mellynchuk earned a three-set thriller on Court 1. Kristyna Damaskova also took a three-set win on Court 2, along with Enya Ratkic who recorded a victory in three sets. Mackenzie White registered a straight set win on Court 4 to give the Blazers the 4-2 win and move to 5-4 on the season.
UAB is back at home to host Georgia State on Saturday, February 22 for senior day. First serve is set 12 p.m. CT. The senior day ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. and fans will receive free tacos and t-shirts.
