UAB Finishes Green and Gold Classic Against Samford

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team (8-6) dropped a six inning game to visiting team Samford (8-5) 10-0.

Samford started hot, scoring four first inning runs on three hits and two errors. The Blazers had three errors in the first two innings. Caroline McLendon made her fifth start accomplishing a 4-1 record until tonight. Both McLendon and Freshman Tait Davidson now have a 4-2 record on the year.

Samford did not stop their scoring another run in the second inning. AJ Kramer came into relief for McLendon in the third inning.

UAB just had three hits on the night coming from Bella Wiggins, Kaily Collett, and Hannah Miles. Collet got her hit in the fourth inning and then stole second base.

Samford hit a three run homer in the sixth inning to lead by 10. UAB would have to score at least three runs to continue to the seventh inning. UAB ended with a base runner in Hope Tucker, but three straight outs ended the game.

Final score: Samford 10, UAB 0

UAB heads to Starkville, Mississippi for a game against SEC opponent Mississippi State Wednesday night at 4:00 p.m.
